Abandonware is Alternatively referred to as abandon warez, abandonware is older software that is no longer developed, sold, or supported and thought of as abandoned. However, although these programs appear to be abandoned or the developer has gone out of business, downloading and installing abandonware is illegal since the programs are still protected under copyright law.
